Water Leak Detection Study and Survey

AKEA conducted a leak detection study and survey of the entire water distribution system serving NSA Panama City, including all water mains and laterals. The NSA Panama City water system includes approximately 11 miles of typical water distribution. Four leak locations were pinpointed, none found to be a Class I-A leak (hazardous in nature and having potential for damage to other facilities and personnel). Although individually the leaks did not warrant immediate repair, it was determined that cumulatively they would cause water loss of more than 1.7 million gallons per year and increased cost to water users. Based on the study results, recommendations were made for replacement, repair, and maintenance of the system, and for future water audits. It was also recommended that utility mapping discrepancies be identified and corrected, and that that a secondary water connection be investigated and implemented for a redundant domestic and fire protection water source.
