Replace Condensate Piping System and Upgrade Pumping
Client: Department of Veterans Affairs
Location: Malcom Randall VA Medical Center, Gainesville, FL
AKEA provided complete design for upgrade and replacement of the condensate pumping and piping systems with new package steam-driven condensate pumping systems throughout the main building pipe basement and boiler plant at the Gainesville VAMC. The pipe basement condensate system collected condensate from the pipe basement, the upper levels of the main building, the nursing home, and the animal clinic. AKEA evaluated the existing condensate system capacities and recommended areas for upgrade with new pumps, piping, steam traps, valves, and other associated equipment. The design included combining multiple existing steam condensate branch and parallel piping that had been added and in some cases abandoned over the years with new combined low-, medium-, and high-pressure condensate mains that collected condensate from the existing branch piping steam traps, with new valves and valved taps for future condensate connections. The new condensate pumping systems discharge piping routed back to the existing boilers condensate receiver with a 30-foot static lift.
