Parking Garage (Phase 1)

Project to design a 500-space parking garage. Tasks included site selection and alternatives analysis, schematic design, design development, preparation of construction documents, and permitting. The five best candidate locations were evaluated for functional design issues, construction cost, and permitting constraints. Complete structural, storm water, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design was provided. Permitting requirements included a Federal Aviation Administration permit for relocating a helipad, a Florida Department of Transportation permit for a new driveway connection to State Route 228, and a St. Johns River Water Management District permit for storm water management. The finished garage opened for use with a total of 637 spaces in 219,207 square feet on 5 levels. This was the first of three parking garage design projects completed by the AKEA team for the Gainesville VAMC.
