CSI Multi-Initiative (3rd Floor Addition)

AKEA provided AE services for development of a design-build procurement package for construction of an additional floor (third-floor level) on top of existing Building B at the Atlanta VAMC, and partial renovation of the floor space below. The building was originally designed with the intent of adding one additional floor. AKEA explored the most economical engineering solutions to add this vertical space for medical use, which will be utilized for OIF / OEF (“Operation Iraqi Freedom” / “Operation Enduring Freedom”), mental health, C&P (compensation & pension), telehealth, women’s health, and polytrauma functions. (The expansion is nearly a mirror image of the third-floor Mental Health Clinical Addition, which AKEA also designed, adjacent to and north of the proposed CSI Multi-Initiative. AKEA had previously performed a complete structural analysis of the facility to determine whether the vertical expansion was feasible for the Mental Health Clinical Addition.) This project was a task order under an Atlanta VAMC IDIQ contract for AE services.
