750,000-Gallon Water Storage Facility

AKEA was contracted to design a water storage facility that would provide a supply of potable water for 96 hours during an emergency situation. Originally planned as an underground storage tank, the final design was for an aboveground storage tank that has a capacity of 750,000+ gallons and is ATFP blast-hardened resistant. Other design elements included a standalone pump station; piping, disinfection, and electrical systems; and instrumentation and controls. The water distribution system was also modified. The project began with a site evaluation because the original chosen site was invalid due to other ongoing projects at the medical center. The site ultimately selected is one of the steeper areas on the medical center grounds. This project was a task order under an Atlanta VAMC IDIQ contract for AE services.
