Construct Pistol Qualifying Range

Location: Range 17, Camp Santiago, Puerto Rico
AKEA was contracted to complete portions of one side of a Puerto Rico Army National Guard pistol qualifying range, and to address the functionality and safety characteristics of the entire range. Specific tasks associated with this project included procuring and installing markers for the left 15 lanes to be consistent with the right side of the range; creating a common ground for all equipment by linking a power circuit ground to each emplacement ground at each emplacement; constructing walking lanes on the left side of the firing range consistent with those on the right side; providing fill dirt to berms to provide protection from bullets, and installing sandbags on exposed concrete sides of target emplacements where fill dirt was not feasible; providing a watershed method for the right lanes; and abating the ricochet hazardat the back end of the range on the right side by excavating rock from an existing wall and rough grading in a manner consistent with the left side of the range.
