Exercise-Related Construction (ERC) Projects at Up Park Camp
Client: NAVFAC Southeast
Location: Jamaican Defense Force Headquarters, Kingston, Jamaica
AKEA provided all labor, materials, and equipment to complete several projects at the Up Park Camp compound (a secure military complex that serves as headquarters for the Jamaican Defense Force), including renovating the existing gym facility for use as an open-bay barracks, renovating the 30-meter range storehouse for observation use, and installing a helicopter skid on the rappel tower. The gym renovations included patching and repairing exterior walls, installing a new roof and fixing interior ceilings, repairing and replacing exterior doors, upgrading restroom facilities, replacing electrical systems, installing concrete entry ramps, and preparing and painting the building interior and exterior. The storehouse (used for shell casings and range targets) received heavy-duty shelving, mobile seating, and an ammunition table; repairs and painting to the interior walls; and an entirely new electrical system. The helicopter skid was fabricated with metal tubing and is capable of supporting up to 500 pounds; the skid dimensions were field verified from a JDF helicopter on site. Fall protection features including steel handrails, guardrails, and chains were also installed on the rappel tower, and steel bracing was added to reduce or eliminate deflection and sway.
